Certify Execution Halting When Minimizing Remote Desktop Connection

Question:

We have been running some of our tests using Remote Desktop and have had problems where if we disconnect the session or minimize the display the script stops running at that point until you reconnect or maximize. Is this something other people are running into? If so, how are they getting around the problem?

Answer:

The standard behavior of the Windows Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) software locks the remote desktop's User Interface when the RDC session is minimized or disconnected. Certify uses the User Interface and must have access for execution to continue, so the RDC session must remain open and connected.

An alternative solution reported by customers is to use VNC viewer software (another remote desktop utility) which does not lock the remote desktop's User Interface when the session is minimized or disconnected.

There is an alternative solution that has also worked in the past. If you take the Remote Desktop window out of maximized mode, you should be able to resize the window to a small square that you can place anywhere on your desktop. In this state, the tests should still run as expected. You just have to be careful not to accidentally minimize the window to the taskbar.
