In my last post I talked about how the business SME is overworked and “chained” to the SAP testing effort. And while Worksoft Certify does reduce their time and effort by allowing tests to be automated and run as soon as the functionality is ready, the fact of the matter is that the SME still has to be involved to some degree. There’s just no way around it.

So we thought long and hard about how we can make the business SME’s life a little less miserable :-) We call it Certify Capture.

In the latest release of Worksoft Certify, the new Certify Capture capability gives the SME a way to walk through whatever process they would normally execute in SAP. Just by doing that, Certify Capture automatically builds the appropriate test steps for them in the Certify database.   Remember that we are asking the Business SME to execute this process in a Quality or a Development system, where data is never as clean as it is in the Production system.  So we also have Certify Data, which provides the Business SME (who will easily recognize what the correct data should be) the ability to easily interrogate the data in the underlying Q or Dev system.  Additionally, that data is tied to the test, and if a test fails due to incorrect data, it is very easy for the person who is managing the automated tests to simply use Certify Data to run a query and get other replacement data values.

Worksoft has specific experience that when the Business SME is directly involved in the initial test building, the actual labor hours required to build the tests is less than half of the time that it takes when the “testers” are on one side of the wall, and the Business SMEs are on the other.
